The final stop. After 3 months on the road, I was running on fumes but Taipei still managed to impress.
We checked into the W Taipei, which was lavish to say the least - after months of hostels, it felt almost surreal. Our first night set the tone: cocktails at the hotel bar, negronis at Ounce in the Da’an district where we got chatting to Jason the bartender for hours, and a late-night dumpling bar that was exactly what you need at 1:30 in the morning.
New Year’s Eve was spent at the local markets eating rice flour noodles and pork buns from places with lines out the door. I had a few days to myself towards the end, which after months of constant movement and company, was exactly what I needed. Taipei is affordable, the food is exceptional, the people are friendly, and it was the perfect city to wind down before the long journey home to Perth. 3 months, 4 continents, and more memories than I know what to do with.
